This Saturday sees Bridlington Town kick off their NPL East campaign with a home clash with Long Eaton United.
The hosts will be looking to build on a comfortable 3-1 FA Cup win at home to Whitley Bay in new manager Mike Thompson’s opening competitive fixture. An own goal, a debut goal from Jack Yates and another from Lewis Dennison, who has begun the season converted to a striker, sent them into the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.
Long Eaton only managed a 2-2 draw away to Sherwood Colliery in the FA Cup, thanks to Rod Orlando-Young netting his second goal of the game with just two minutes to go. As a result, they will have to host the replay on Tuesday evening. Conversely, Bridlington have a full week to recover and prepare for the game, and will therefore be hoping to take advantage of having fresher legs.
The visitors are new to the Northern Premier League East Division, as they won the Uhlsport United Counties League - Premier Division North to gain automatic promotion. Striker Alex Marshall was the league's third most prolific scorer with 29 goals in all 38 matches, so Thompson will have to be wary of the threat he poses. Midfielder Danny Gordon is another to look out for, as he earned himself Player of the Season last campaign.
