Bridlington Town welcomed Nottingham-based Carlton Town, to the Hudgell Solicitor Stadium, on Saturday, in a game that ended 0-0.
This was despite the Seasiders having a plethora of chances to win the game. There were two changes to the Bridlington Town starting lineup, as skipper Matty Plummer returned from injury and striker Joe Norton made his first start for the club since joining from Beverley Town.
The hosts started the game the brighter side, and had a shout for a penalty 19 minutes in after Norton nicked the ball off Michael Emery in the Carlton goal. Just five minutes later, Norton almost found his first goal in a Brid shirt, but he couldn’t quite bundle the ball home on the goal-line.
A wave of pressure then came from the visitors a minute later, as Bradley Wells had the ball in the back of the Bridlington net, only for the linesman’s flag to be raised. Moments later, James Hitchcock made an excellent, point blank save, which saw him get a strong hand to Kyle Tomlin’s shot to put the ball behind for a corner.
Carlton yet again nearly broke the deadlock with one minute until the break, though Benn Lewis cleared the ball off the line as Wells nearly squeezed the ball home.
The second half saw big chances fall the way of the hosts. Star man Lewis Dennison got to the byline on the left of the penalty area, squared the ball to Aydemir but his effort was mis-hit and comfortably wide. Shortly after, it was Aydemir who crossed the ball that was met by substitute Matt Broadley, but his strike was also wide.
Arguably the best chance of the game fell the way of Australian Noah Stokes, who met Will Sutton’s excellent left-footed cross, but the free header from close range sailed over.
With eight minutes to go, Dennison stole the ball of the Carlton defender, shot from the edge of the penalty area and struck the post in what was the last chance of the game. The goalless draw saw Bridlington earn their second clean sheet of the season, as they moved up one position into sixth.
Next up, Bridlington travel to Cleethorpes Town on Saturday 24th September, a game that has been brought forward from October due to both teams departing the FA Trophy.
