Spending a Penny in Whitby will continue to cost 40p this year.
The Town Council this week voted not to increase the fee for using the public toilets in the town.
It had been proposed to increase the charge to 50p but councillors felt that was too much.
Town Mayor - Councillor Linda Wild - had backed an increase.
Whitby Town Council took over the running of the local public toilets from the Borough council several years ago. The town council has to fund the operation of the facilities itself and introduce the charge to cover the costs of cleaning and maintaining the loos.
A motion to increase the usage fee from 40pence to 50pence was rejected at this week's full council meeting.
Councillor Sandra Turner was against the increase.
Councillor Rob Barnett suggested that there shouldn't be any charge for using public conveniences.
Town Mayor - Councillor Linda Wild - said that there is a need for public toilets in the town and they do need to be paid for. Councillor Wild says that lockdown provided an example of what would happen if the town had no public toilets at all.
The council voted not to increase the fee for using Whitby's public toilets, that will stay at 40p.
They did however vote to increase the fee charged to schools for access to the facilities for school trips to the town. Currently schools pay a daily blanket fee of £10 for access to the facilities, that will now increase £12 per day.
