
A community consultation meting is taking place on Wednesday regarding plans to develop up to 100 residential homes on agricultural land west of Scalby.
The proposal, put forward by Hallam Land, marks the initial stage before the formal submission of an Outline Planning Application to North Yorkshire Council (NYC).
The consultation event, designed to allow local residents and stakeholders to review the detailed proposals, is being held at St Laurence’s Church Rooms, Church Hill, Scalby, on Wednesday 22nd October, running from 16:00 until 19:00.
Representatives of Hallam Land and the development team will be present to speak with attendees. Hallam Land says it is "committed to ongoing engagement with Newby and Scalby Town Council and local residents" as the scheme progresses.
The Proposed Development
The site in question is located off North Street, Scalby, and is currently used for agricultural purposes. The proposals currently being drawn up focus on delivering "up to 100 residential dwellings".
Hallam Land claims that the scheme will offer "a boost to housing supply and enhanced choice of market and affordable housing in the local area". The developer anticipates providing a varied housing mix, including two- to five-bedroom properties, intended "to meet local housing need," with a commitment to delivering 30% affordable homes.
Key infrastructure details outlined in the proposal include:
- The main point of vehicular access being taken from North Street, Scalby.
- A network of pedestrian and cycle routes to provide connections across the site and to the surrounding area.
- The incorporation of areas designated as Public Open Space.
- Sustainable Drainage systems to manage water flow.
- The potential to provide additional parking provision for Scalby Sports Club.
Furthermore, Hallam Land asserts that additional landscaping within the application site will be used to "provide biodiversity, improve visual amenity and offer natural screening where appropriate".
Providing Feedback
Illustrative Masterplan details will be available for viewing at the exhibition event. Hallam Land has expressed a keen interest in local opinion, stating, "We would welcome your thoughts on what is important to the local community and how this scheme can contribute".
