Bridlington is preparing to welcome one of its most enduring and beloved events as the October Charter Fair returns to Moorfield Road Car Park from Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 October 2025.
Organisers say the fair, which dates back to the year 1200, remains a cornerstone of the town’s cultural calendar.
Held in the heart of Bridlington, the fair promises a mix of giant rides, juvenile attractions, prize stalls and traditional refreshments. Attendees can expect “brandy snap, toffee apples, and candy floss” alongside the familiar sights and sounds of a seaside celebration.
The event officially opens at 5pm on Wednesday 22 October, marked by a ceremony attended by the Mayor, local dignitaries and members of the Showmen’s Guild. A spokesperson for the Guild confirmed that “every ride the Mayor tries is opened up for locals to enjoy too,” continuing a long-standing tradition that blends civic pride with community participation.
Another highlight of the opening ceremony is the ringing of the Fair Bells, once owned by the late James Robinson. Organisers describe this act as a symbolic gesture that “signals the start of this historic celebration,” reinforcing the fair’s status as one of the oldest charter fairs in the country.
Many of the attractions arrive directly from Hull Fair, which concludes just days before Bridlington’s event begins.
The fair’s schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday to Friday: 5pm to late
- Saturday: 1pm to late
- Sunday: 1pm to 7pm
With its blend of heritage, entertainment and local flavour, the Bridlington Charter Fair continues to offer residents and visitors alike a chance to celebrate tradition in a festive setting. Organisers encourage families to attend and enjoy what they describe as “sticky fingers and big smiles” in a setting that has stood the test of time.
