The government is expected to announce later today whether or not the conditions are right for the ending of all lockdown restrictions a week today.
There are strong suggestions that the easing is going to be delayed perhaps by four weeks but with a review after two weeks. A n announcement from the Prime Minister is expected later.
There are four tests which the government is using to make that decision based around the progress of the vaccine programme, infection rates, death rates and emerging variants.
Richard Webb from North Yorkshire County Council say the county performs well against that criteria.
While North Yorkshire is performing well, Richard cautions that any decision made by the government today about the date for easing the restrictions will be made on a national basis taking in data from across the country.
With rising numbers of infections, a government source says it's a "straight race between the vaccine and the virus".
The delay would mean pubs remain restricted to table service, despite the Euro 2020 football championships getting under way.
The guidance that "everyone who can work from home must do so" will also continue, although it's thought the limit of 30 guests at weddings will be relaxed.
