Struggling Whitby were left to rue some missed first-half opportunities as second-placed Worksop won right at the end in a much closer clash than the 3-1 scoreline suggests.
It was the visitors, who look nailed on for a play-off place with leaders Macclesfield's title coronation only a matter of time, who showed first, heading wide of the mark, inside nine minutes.
At the other end, Aaron Haswell's left wing cross was met with a powerful nod, just over, from Lewis Hawkins.
Around the half hour, Haswell then had a chance of his own but ex-Scarborough goalkeeper Tommy Taylor made a terrific save to keep the scores goal-less.
12 minutes into the second half, the away side curled in an impressive opener.
Shane Bland then made a spectacular stop to keep out a goalbound effort.
As Whitby pressed, right wing-back Connor Smith overlapped and forced Taylor to touch wide, with 11 minutes left. More Smith pressure then told as he found sub Mitch Curry who cut back for Hawkins to strike, via a deflection, for 1-1 on 83 minutes.
With four minutes of added time announced, the Nottinghamshire side won a series of corners and they flicked home, three minutes in, to grab a late winner. As Whitby desperately committed men forward, Worksop made sure, beating Bland one-on-one for a last-gasp third.
