Scarborough Athletic Begin FA Cup Campaign With Dunston Clash

Scarborough Athletic kick off their FA Cup campaign on Saturday against Dunston, with manager Jono Greening targeting a decisive win to secure vital funds and avoid a replay.

The FA Cup journey begins today for Scarborough Athletic as they travel to the North East to face Dunston.

An important cup run is on the line for the Seadogs, who are taking on opponents currently playing in the NPL East, which sits two divisions below the Boro.

A much-improved performance is the primary target for the squad this afternoon. When the two sides previously met in the competition in 2024, the Gateshead-based club forced a one-all draw.

Financial boosts and squad reinforcements are key priorities for the club during this tournament. Seadogs manager Jono Greening told SAFC TV that he wants more from his side this time around, emphasising the importance of securing a victory without the need for an additional fixture:

Greening said:

"We know it's massive for the club, you know, getting through and having a good cup run and trying to get some money into the club to help us out. So, we know that we have to go there and try and win the game and try and get some money into the club to, you know, hopefully help get some players to help the team and to help us all. We know last time we went over there we didn't put a good performance on, you know, we were poor so we want to put that right. We had to bring them back in the replay, so we don't want to do that. We don't want to add an extra game with all our injuries as well, so yeah, we're looking forward to it."

Live match coverage will be broadcast for fans unable to make the trip to the North East.
