Drivers reported stationary traffic on the A171 on Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the delays is not clear, there were unconfirmed reports that the Air Ambulance has been seen in the area.
Callers report that the emergency services are in the area, as of 7:30pm there has been no official word from the Police.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service reported that at around 3:15pm a crew and officer from Whitby responded to reports of a cyclist who had been hit by a vehicle at Sneaton Corner on the B1416. They say that crews assisted at the scene before the male was left in the care of the ambulance service. It's not clear if this incident was related.
By 7:30pm reports on social media were suggesting the road was open and that traffic had returned to normal.
