Scarborough and Whitby's MP says residents should continue to use the health service if they need it.
Labour's Alison Hume says local people should not shy away from using the health service during the ongoing doctors' strike:
"We're aware that there's a doctor strike at the moment, and this is the message from government really is Please don't stay at home. If you need to be seen. You need to be seen, so use 111 and 999 if it's an emergency, but everyone else is at work, so please don't suffer in silence. I'm very supportive of all medical professionals, but I think that this strike by the resident doctors is irresponsible in the middle of probably the worst kind of flu outbreak that we've seen in many years.
"So please, if you're listening, resident doctors go back to work."
The British Medical Association says they want a "genuinely long term plan" to increase pay and make up for years of below-inflation rises, plus more training posts.
