The A171 between Whitby and Scarborough and between Whitby and Scaling Dam are trecherous
We have been monitoring a band of snow as its progressed south towards our area with Paddy predicting a spell of snow hitting the area this morning.
The snow arrived at around 8:30am and has been continuing to fall since.
There is already a covering of snow across much of the area and as a result the A171 is trecherous with vehicles unable to get up and down some of the hills near Fylingdales Service Station.
Paddy took this call from the A171 near Fylingdales:
And not long ago, we received this call, saying Police were now on the scene:
Routes into and around Scarborough are also very slow as drivers negotiate the wintry conditions.
The A169 at Blue Bank near Sleights is trecherous and gridlocked as is Guisborough Road west of Whitby heading up and down the hill on the A171. Stephen is trying to get from Whitby to Egton Bridge:
As the snow sinks south, the A165 is now being affected between Scarborough and Bridlington.
North Yorkshire Police have posted this update:
Treacherous road conditions in our coastal areas including A169 Sleights to Whitby is impassable. A171 Fylingdales is impassable. There is also lots of congestion and motorists are urged to avoid the area at this time and delay their journey until conditions have improved. Thank you and please take care.
