A64 Technical Surveys Prompt Further Overnight Closures This Week

There will be overnight closures along a stretch of the A64 this week as part of ongoing technical survey work ahead of a proposed safety barrier scheme.

National Highways has announced a new round of overnight closures along a stretch of the A64 near Malton, North Yorkshire, as part of ongoing technical survey work ahead of a proposed safety barrier scheme.

The closures, scheduled between 8pm and 6am, are designed to protect both motorists and the workforce during detailed inspections between Musley Bank and the Old Malton junction, extending to Brambling Fields on certain nights.

A spokesperson for National Highways said, "These surveys are an essential part of our planning for future safety enhancements along the A64. We appreciate road users’ patience while the works are carried out."

The planned closures include:

  • Weeknights between 14 and 21 July: Full eastbound closure from Musley Bank to the Old Malton junction. The eastbound access slip will remain open. A diversion will send traffic along the B1248 and B1257 via Town Street and Old Malton Road before rejoining the A64.

  • 22 July (one night): Full westbound closure from the Old Malton junction to Musley Bank. The access slip at Musley Bank will remain open. Westbound traffic will be diverted via the B1257, Town Street Old Malton, Old Malton Road and York Road (B1248). Additionally, lane 2 on the eastbound carriageway will be closed for 1km from the Old Malton junction.

National Highways also confirmed that a lane 2 closure on the westbound dual carriageway will continue throughout the affected segments.

Live traffic updates and real-time closure information are available through Traffic England and the National Highways Yorkshire and North East maintenance schemes page.

A representative from the agency added,

"As always, closure schedules are subject to change depending on operational needs and weather conditions. We recommend drivers check before travelling."

The technical surveys form part of a larger safety and infrastructure programme for key routes in North Yorkshire.
