A ‘world-famous’ Scarborough fish and chip shop’s application to sell alcohol and play music is to be decided by councillors following local concerns.

​North York Moors National Park Authority will leave its current dilapidated offices and move to new £4m headquarters — despite concerns the decision could put the organisation at financial risk.

Councillors in the East Riding have expressed deep concern following the government's announcement of a provisional funding settlement, which local leaders claim will leave the authority among the worst-affected in the country.

Whitby's Mayor has said the town council should look for new sources of funding as the authority considers raising its precepts.

Tributes have been pouring in for the well-respected Deputy Mayor and local Councillor Ray Pollard, who sadly passed away on Saturday 17th of January 2026
