John Dennett visited history students at George Pindar School this week.
John Dennett is a 97 year old World War Two veteran. He joined the Royal Navy in 1942 and after 12 weeks of training went in to service as an anti-aircraft gunner. He served in the Atlantic escorting convoys before taking part in the North Africa landings of Operation Torch, the Sicily landings and eventually the Normandy Landings on D-Day.
John is from Merseyside but spends time each year with family on the Yorkshire Coast.
This week as part of his latest visit to the area John visited George Pindar School where he spoke to History Students about his experiences.
John's relative, Duncan Law says remembrance is one of the key messages John likes to pass on to youngsters.
Duncan says John feels a sense of responsibility to pass on his experiences to younger generations
John's talk was to a year 8 history class, but Duncan says the reception he got from the whole school was amazing.
