The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has unveiled its Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme for the upcoming Easter break, featuring over 200 sessions including go-karting, pony trekking, and water sports.
Children aged four to sixteen across the Yorkshire Coast and the wider East Riding region are set to benefit from an extensive range of holiday provision this spring. The council has confirmed that the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will return with a diverse selection of experiences, ranging from high-rope aerial adventures to specialist water sports designed for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The scheme is primarily targeted at supporting families in receipt of benefits-related free school meals or council tax support, who are eligible to access the activities entirely free of charge. However, organisers have confirmed that the programme remains inclusive, with paid-for places available to other families, subject to the specific provider and activity.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, the cabinet member for children, families and education at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, emphasised the importance of providing these opportunities to ensure children remain active and engaged outside of term time. She stated:
The Holiday Activities and Food programme enables children from low-income households to enjoy a healthy meal and enriching, fun activities for free across the East Riding. Our providers also offer paid-for places for other families who would like to get involved. There’s once again a great range of activities for children of all ages to enjoy, from sports, music and dance to craft, nature activities and animal encounters.
The initiative, which is funded by the Department for Education, aims to alleviate pressure on local families while promoting healthy lifestyles. Activities are spread across the East Riding, including locations such as Bridlington, Hornsea, Driffield, and surrounding areas.
Parents and carers who are eager to secure a spot for their children can register their interest immediately via the council’s new digital booking platform at eequ.org/eastridinghaf. According to the council, official bookings are scheduled to open on Monday, 16 March, at 2pm.
