A controlled explosion was needed to make the device safe.
The device was found in the Filey Road area of Scarborough yesterday morning.
The World War 2 hand grenade which had been kept as wartime memorabilia had it's detonator still intact.
Police, Fire and Ambulance teams were called to the location to ensure public safety. A number of residents were asked to leave their homes temporarily and roads were closed as a precaution.
The Ministry of Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were dispatched to the scene.
They later transported the device to a safe location for a controlled explosion to be carried out.
