East Riding Voluntary Action Services (ERVAS) and the Humberside Police Cyber Crime team and the Economic Crime Unit, have launched their Winter Fraud Events this week.
The launch comes as part of International Fraud Awareness Week 2020. They will be hosting a series of workshops focused on:
- Fraud and Cyber Awareness
- Understanding Your Digital Footprint, Social Engineering and Staying Safe Online
- Keeping Young People Safe Online
The workshops will have a focus on the next few upcoming seasonal events, starting with Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The first workshop will take place this Friday at 7pm, via Zoom and anyone is welcome to attend. You can find out more about this workshop and book a place online here.
The session will then be followed by a workshop looking at keeping young people safe online and will take place on Thursday 26 November at 7pm, full details can be found here.
ERVAS say
"This campaign has been launched to raise awareness of fraud and cybercrime over the winter period. Over this period we anticipate an increase of fraud and cyber victims, due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and seasonal events, such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, January sales, valentines day and the Easter break.
We know that criminals will exploit individuals during these times, and use these seasonal events to commit crime. As a response to this, and to protect our communities, we plan to raise awareness of fraud, cybercrime and the #TakeFive campaign in the hope we can reduce the number of potential victims during this period. The campaign will see events taking place between November 2020 and March 2021, with sessions tailored to various target groups and whole communities. "
