Winning Start For Yorkshire Coast Cricket Trio

Scarborough, Bridlington and Folkton and Flixton all picked up wins on the opening day of their cricket campaigns on Saturday.

Whitby almost made it four out of four, as they contested their second game of the season, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, only to be denied an outright victory by a determined last-wicket pair.

Kai Morris' men posted 269 for 6 from their 50 overs. Paul Buck top scored with 60 as three Whitby players made half centuries.

Visitors Middlesbrough Seconds were then restricted to 176 for 9, with Ricky Hall taking 4 for 29 and Kobie Boocock 2 for 18.

A much-changed Scarborough thumped Yorkshire Academy by nine wickets, at the University of Leeds.

James Wainman took 2 for 26 and Jack Holt 2 for 23- Ben Elvidge helped polish off the tail with 4 for 13.

Pat Roberts' men then cantered to their target, inside 27 overs. Oliver Stephenson went for 21, before Cian Dickinson (57) and Breidyn Schaper (16) took them to victory in Yorkshire Premier North.

In the York and District Premier, Folkton and Flixton edged a dramatic clash at Hull Zingari.

Batting first, Will Norman and Connor Stephenson put on over a hundred in an unbroken seventh partnership, as Folkton and Flixton posted 256 for 6 from their 50 overs.

Tom Norman then took 4 for 61 as Hull collapsed from 242 for 6 to 252 all out, losing by four runs with two balls remaining.

In Division One East, Bridlington skittled hosts Sutton on Hull for just 117. 

Steve Janney took 2 for 4 late on and there were also wickets for Thomas Hudson, Sam Edmondson, Russell Robinson, Ben Traves and Corey Rudd.

In response, Brid reached their target in less than 19 overs, making 119 for 3, as Robinson finished unbeaten on 54.
