Whitby's Gritting Issues to be Discussed

The gritting situation in Whitby is going to be discussed at a meeting involving both the county council and town council.

Concerns were raised after the recent cold snaps lead to paths in the town being described as lethal and the police having to cordon off part of the town centre after a number of people slipped over.

Whitby County Councillor - Phil Trumper - says he's been in contact with highways officers.

Whitby Town Councillor - Hero Sumner - says the situation in December when the severe cold snap hit was dire. Councillor Sumner says the lack of grit bins meant the community couldn't even help itself.

Whitby North County Councillor - Neil Swannick - thinks that more money will be needed if the gritting service in Whitby is to be improved.

Councillor Swannick says making improvements will all come down to finding more cash.
