The Blues ended a three-match losing run with a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.
Town were held by Merseyside outfit Prescot Cables, in a match they dominated, in NPL Premier.
James Harrison, one of six changes made by Gary Liddle, came close early on, but saw his seventh-minute effort blocked.
Harrison, then combined well with Layton Watts but was denied by a smart save.
Centre-half Frankie Whelan, also back in the side, headed just over. Sam Collins, another recalled defender, came close with a stinging effort.
Liddle himself, also back on the pitch, executed a fine saving tackle just before half-time.
Watts then sent a dipping effort narrowly too high.
Donald Chimalilo curled just wide early in the second half for Town, with the same player clipping tamely into the keeper's hands soon after.
Ex-Scarborough midfielder Michael Woods volleyed just over after good work from Watts.
15 minutes from time, Chimalilo forced another save with Harrison clipping the rebound wide.
Blues keeper Shane Bland blocked with his chest at the other end, before another ex Boro man Jake Charles and Watts forced good saves from Bland's opposite number as it stayed 0-0.
