Whitby is set to become a hub for food enthusiasts this week as it hosts the return of its popular Restaurant Week.
From Monday, 2 March to Sunday, 8 March 2026, residents and visitors alike are being encouraged to explore the diverse culinary landscape of the North Yorkshire coast through a series of specially priced menus.
Delivered by Visit North Yorkshire, the destination marketing service for North Yorkshire Council, the event follows a successful debut last year. This year, 23 businesses across Whitby have signed up to participate, offering set-price dining options at £10, £15, £20, and £30. The initiative aims to highlight everything from traditional pub meals and classic fish and chips to hearty breakfasts and sweet treats.
Cllr Mark Crane, the North Yorkshire Council executive member for open to business, expressed his enthusiasm for the event's return. He stated that the council has been "delighted with the response" from local traders. According to Cllr Crane, the event "gives people the perfect excuse to try something new and celebrate the talent on offer" within the county's vibrant food scene.
For many local establishments, the week represents more than just a series of discounts; it is a vital tool for community engagement during the off-season. Botham’s of Whitby, a family-run bakery on Skinner Street with a 150-year history, is among those returning to the programme. The business, originally founded by Elizabeth Botham, is now managed by the fifth generation of her family.
Kay Dickinson, a director at Botham’s, noted that the event was a "great success" last year and serves as an important way to "encourage customers out in the quieter months". Beyond driving footfall to her own doors, Mrs Dickinson highlighted the sense of community the week fosters among local hospitality providers.
“During this week, we also enjoy talking about the other great eateries to be found in Whitby and feel it unites us all,” she said. She urged potential diners to plan their visits in advance to "make the most of Whitby Restaurant Week, trying as much of the delicious food on offer as possible".
