St Hilda's School in Whitby is likely to close permanently in April.
In January last year the Governors started a consultation about closure as a result of falling numbers of pupils and financial pressures.
Now North Yorkshire County Council's executive has agreed to start the formal closure process, a proposal of closure will be published this month stating the intention for the school to close on April 9th.
Councillor Patrick Mulligan, Executive Member for Education and Skills says attempts to save the school weren't helped by the by the COVID situation.
A group was formed early last year to try and save the school but despite the best efforts of the Governors, parents and local councillors a solution could not be found. Whitby Councillor David Chance says it's a disappointing situation.
