A power cut in Whitby caused a local school to delay opening today.
Northern Power Grid say around 340 properties in the YO21 and YO30 areas were affected.
The loss of power was reported at around 5am today, Northern Powergrid said they hoped to have electricity restored by 9am.
Airey Hill School in Whitby contacted parents to advise that the School has no electricity and can't open until power is restored.
The school managed to get children back in, later than usual after the power was restored.
"Just an update for you - power is back on and school will be open at 9.20. We will just need a little time to prepare for the late opening so please follow these timings for your child - Reception Y3 Y4 and Y6 to be here for 9.20 and Y1 Y2 Y5 and Nursery to be here for 9.30."
Northern Powergrid say a small number of properties might not have power restored until midday they added:
"The power cut was caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve the area"
