Wage Increases Needed in Scarborough Borough to Fill Vacancies

Scarborough and Whitby's MP says poorly paid jobs need more recognition if vacancies are to be filled.

Wages for low paid workers in the Scarborough Borough are going to have to increase if firms are going to fill current vacancies.

That's the view of Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill. He thinks many high skilled but low paid roles need to be properly recognised.

Speaking at a meeting last month Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill said he hoped the number of roles available might help people affected by the changes to furlough and universal credit that have come in to force this week.

Mr Goodwill says he's been talking to a number of local firms over the last couple of months who have found it difficult to get the workers they need.

Yesterday the Prime Minister told the Tory Party conference he'll keep immigration down, saying it'll help increase wages.

But businesses and free market think tanks are concerned about a potential rise in inflation, and shortages of products and drivers.
