Volunteer Rescue Team Call on Air Ambulance After Mountain Biker Injured in Dalby Forest

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (SRMRT) responded to a call from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service regarding a mountain biker who had sustained an arm injury in Dalby Forest last night.

The incident on the evening of October 7th prompted a swift response, with several team members already in training at their base quickly mobilizing in team vehicles. A Full Team Callout was issued to ensure all necessary resources were available for the rescue operation.

Upon arrival, the SRMRT assessed the condition of the casualty and determined that additional support was needed. Consequently, they requested assistance from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which was able to identify a suitable landing site near the Visitor Centre in Dalby Forest.

The mountain biker had sustained a severe arm injury with an arterial bleed. The rescue team say that his friends had done an excellent job acting quickly to reduce the bleeding and gave a good location using what 3 words.

The injured biker was evacuated using a Bell stretcher, a standard procedure for safely transporting individuals with potential spinal or limb injuries. Following the evacuation, the casualty was escorted to a waiting ambulance, accompanied by two friends who were concerned for their wellbeing.

In a statement, the SRMRT expressed gratitude towards the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance for their collaborative efforts during the incident, highlighting the importance of teamwork in emergency situations.

The SRMRT continues to encourage outdoor enthusiasts to exercise caution while enjoying the natural beauty of the region, reminding them that help is always just a call away.
