A group of volunteers who are helping Ukrainian refugees to find host families in the Scarborough Borough say getting the Ukrainian children into local schools has been one of their priorities.
The Sunflower Appeal Group has around 360 local members with some of them acting as hosts for the refugees.
Iain Butterworth is one of those helping to house the Ukrainian families displaced by the war, he says they've been working hard to make sure the visitors have the information they need and are able to get their children in to local schools.
Iain says they have even managed to organise English lessons for the Ukrainians
Iain says getting the Ukrainian children into local schools has been one of their priorities, and while some of the Ukrainian children are really keen to get back in the classroom, others are more hesitant.
The group says it is hearing on a daily basis from Ukrainian families looking to find hosts in the local area as they flee their war torn homes.
The Sunflower group are holding regular meetings to support both the Ukrainian families relocating to the Yorkshire Coast and the local people acting as their hosts. The group has been holding discussions with the authorities on transport help, benefits, education, employment and English schools, they have also been working with local employers to match guests up with local jobs.
