Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (SRMRT) had a busy evening on Sunday, responding to two separate incidents in quick succession.
The first incident occurred at Hole of Horcum at 16:54. North Yorkshire Police requested the team’s assistance in locating an adult and two children who had become lost in the woodland as daylight began to fade. Team members already in the vicinity were immediately dispatched to the scene and successfully located the missing individuals. The team then escorted the group back to their vehicle. Although a full team callout was initially initiated, it was ultimately not required. Twenty team members were involved in this rescue, which lasted for two and a quarter hours.
While still returning to base from the first incident, the team received another call at 19:08. This time, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust requested assistance with a female horse rider who had fallen from her horse and sustained a suspected back injury. An ambulance crew was already on its way, but they needed help extracting the patient from the location.
Upon arrival, the SRMRT team provided medical treatment, secured the patient on a Vacuum Mattress, and carefully carried her to the waiting ambulance for transportation to the hospital. This rescue effort involved nineteen team members and took two hours and twenty minutes.
The SRMRT team have expressed their well wishes for the injured horse rider's swift recovery.
