Police in Scarborough executed a drug warrant on Friargate this morning.
In a significant operation this morning, officers from the Scarborough and Eastfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, in collaboration with the proactive Operation Sentry team, executed a drug warrant on Friargate in Scarborough. This action was taken in response to information received from community partners and residents, leading to a court-authorized entry into the property, which is strategically located within the Safer Streets campaign area.
A spokesperson for the police emphasized the importance of community involvement in crime reduction efforts. "Working with our communities is one of the best ways we can cut crime and keep people safe," they stated. This approach follows recent surveys distributed to residents in the Old Town, aimed at identifying key concerns and areas needing attention.
During the operation, a woman from Scarborough was arrested on charges of conspiring to supply a Class A drug and for an offence under the Modern Slavery Act related to exploitation. Additionally, a man from Rotherham was apprehended for possession with intent to supply a Class B drug. The investigation is ongoing as authorities gather more information.
Police have also outlined several signs that may indicate drug dealing activities, which include:
- Increased visitors at a property at all hours
- Short-term parking by numerous vehicles
- Varied accents heard at the property
- Incidents of anti-social behaviour
- Long absences of the resident
- Presence of drug-related litter, such as small plastic bags or syringes
- Windows covered or curtains drawn for extended periods
