Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team has provided an update following reports of a missing swimmer last seen in the Thornwick Bay area on Wednesday.
An extensive multi-agency search operation was launched on Wednesday evening, involving Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team, three RNLI Lifeboats, HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, HM Coastguard Fixed Wing Aircraft, Humberside Police, Humberside Fire Drone Unit and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Coastguard rescue officers and partner agencies carried out coordinated land, sea, and air searches throughout the night, continuing for over seven hours into the early hours of Thursday morning.
As conditions allowed, teams were retasked at low tide on Thursday to conduct thorough searches of caves and coastal features in the Thornwick area.

Despite the best efforts of all agencies involved, the missing swimmer has not been located, and as of Thursday afternoon (31 July), all search operations were stood down.
Jordan Grebby, Station Officer at Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team, said:
“Our teams always strive to search, rescue, and to save. Sadly, despite extensive efforts, the swimmer has not been found. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones at this very difficult time.”
"We would like to thank all partner agencies for their dedication and professionalism during the operation. We also urge members of the public to take care when visiting the coast and to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard in any coastal emergency."
