Thornwick Bay Holiday Park in Yorkshire has gone live with a significant upgrade to its mobile network, offering guests and owners improved 5G and significantly enhanced 4G and 5G coverage.
The network enhancements at Thornwick Bay Holiday Park are a collaborative effort between O2 and Freshwave, a connectivity infrastructure-as-a-service provider. This work is a key component of O2’s broader Mobile Transformation Plan, an initiative that will see the operator invest approximately £700 million into its mobile network this year. The plan aims to future-proof O2’s mobile network and address the increasing demand from customers by improving connectivity in high-demand areas across the UK.
James Bromley, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Haven, expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
“We’re delighted to be working with O2 and Freshwave to bring enhanced mobile connectivity to our parks,”
He highlighted the importance of staying connected for modern holidaymakers, noting,
“Our guests and owners expect to stay connected, whether it’s sharing memories, streaming entertainment, or working remotely”.
He added that Haven’s investment in its parks had attracted O2 to ensure the delivery of the best possible experience for families choosing to holiday or own at their parks.
Dr Robert Joyce, Director of Mobile Access Engineering at O2, commented on the strategic importance of such upgrades.
“With more people choosing to holiday in the UK, we are working to improve our mobile network in some of the most popular staycation destinations,”
Dr Joyce underscored that the work with Haven exemplifies O2’s Mobile Transformation Plan in action, bringing more reliable connectivity to places where people need it most.

Thornwick Bay Holiday Park is one of the first four sites to benefit from these upgrades, with additional parks expected to follow throughout the summer and into early next year.
