Whitby swing bridge was closed to road traffic earlier after technical issues.
North Yorkshire County Council say the closure this morning was due to a technical problem earlier in the day.
Reports earlier suggested that the bridge was stuck in the open to shipping position.
The county council say that pedestrians were allowed to use the crossing but that a number of tests need to be carried out before it could be opened fully.
The bridge reopened to traffic at around 3pm
