That's the advice from North Yorkshire County Council's Director of Health, as the county faces it's first weekend in the new national lockdown
Richard Webb says we need to make the effort to keep in touch with friends and relatives on the phone and via video calling during the new national lockdown.
The restrictions mean that everyone has to stay at home, there are very few permitted reasons to go out, they include.
- If you absolutely need to be at work,
- to exercise locally,
- to get essentials
- or to volunteer
Richard says the lack of direct social contact makes it more important than ever to make the effort to keep in contact with people via the phone.
He also says it's really important that we all take our permitted once a day opportunity, to get out for a walk.
There is a slight note of caution from the NHS in the county who say the recent cold snap has lead to and increase in the number of people requiring treatment for slips and falls.
At a time when pressure on the county's hospitals is mounting they ask people to consider the weather conditions before heading out.
People who need support with shopping, prescriptions, caring for pets and other essentials are encouraged to contact family, friends, neighbours or groups to which they belong. North Yorkshire residents without those networks, or anyone concerned about someone else’s welfare, can contact the county council’s customer service centre on 01609 780780. The centre is open seven days a week, 8am to 5.30pm.
