Sunday Call Out for Whitby RNLI

Whitby RNLI launched their inshore lifeboat on Sunday afternoon to a report of three people cut off by the tide.

The crew were tasked to search the coastline south of Whitby, near Saltwick after a call was made to the Coastguard.

They made a shoreline search but did not find anyone in difficulty, at which point the Whitby Coastguard team reported that the casualties had managed to make their own way to safety.

Helm of the inshore lifeboat, Jonathan Marr said:

"We often work alongside the local coastguard crew when walkers are cut off by the tide, and we were relieved on this occasion that it was a false alarm.

The call to the coastguard was made with good intent and we thank the member of the public who called it in for their vigilance.

People are frequently cut off on that particular section of beach due to it being lined by steep cliffs.

We would advise anyone enjoying a coastal walk to:

Check the tide times

Allow plenty of time before high tide to exit the beach

Carry a means of calling for help.’
