A Yorkshire Coast councillor is calling for bus services to be given the same level of importance as train services, by transport planners and politicians.
Hunmanby and Sherburn County Councillor - Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff - says more recognition is needed for the importance of buses, especially in rural villages.
Councillor Donohue-Moncrieffe says issues with train services seem to get a lot of attention while bus services seem to get overlooked.
Councillor Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff says the lack of focus has lead to bus services becoming more difficult for people to access and more expensive for people to use.
Last Spring North Yorkshire missed out on £116m of funding from the Government's Bus Back Better scheme which would have seen more investment in local services.
Commercial bus operators have been under pressure since the end of the pandemic with passenger numbers failing to recover to pre-pandemic levels. A number of commercial routes in Scarborough were altered as a result and Coastliner operator Transdev has said it's route between Malton and Whitby will not be commercially viable after April this year when the winter months subsidy comes to an end.
