An emergency dental service for Eastfield residents is starting on July 1st and a longer term 'innovative' solution for the Scarborough borough is on the way.
The NHS dentistry service in North Yorkshire says they are doing all they can to improve the level of service provision in the Scarborough Borough.
NHS dentistry commissioner Debbie Pattinson admits people cant get check-ups in the town, she says the problem has got worse in the borough over the last year.
Debbie Pattinson says they have tried to find new dental services for the area and have now managed to put in place a temporary arrangement for patients displaced by the closure of the Eastfield practice. Debbie says the temporary service will start on July 1st and will provide an urgent care service for patients displaced by the Eastfield Closure.
Eastfield Councillor,Tony Randerson, says the closure of the dental practice in Eastfield has left hundreds of people without an NHS dentist.
He says that residents are having to take their children to Middlesbrough to get dental treatment and face bills of up to a hundred pounds for treatment.
NHS dentistry commissioner Debbie Pattinson says they've found it difficult to find a replacement service.
Debbie Pattison says Eastfield patients will be able to get emergency treatment from another practice in Scarborough from July 1st and she says there is a longer term plan to provide a more permanent solution.
