The Royal Research Ship is conducting trials ahead of its first mission to Antarctica later this year.
The ship was almost called 'Boaty McBoatface' after the public were asked to choose a name for the £200 million ship.
The vessel is operated by British Antarctic Survey and has been off the Yorkshire Coast for the last few days.
It will research climate change, oceans, the seafloor and ice formations too.
