North Yorkshire Police say the road is closed following collision near Potter Brompton
In a post on social media on Sunday evening officers said:
"We’re currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A64 between the turn off for Potter Brompton and Ganton.
Diversions are in progress and there is likely to be some disruption for some time. Please avoid the area whilst emergency services respond."
National Highways say:
"The A64 in North Yorkshire is closed in both directions between the A169 near Old Malton and the A1039 near Staxton.
North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, Yorkshire Ambulance and Yorkshire Air Ambulance are attending a serious collision near Sherburn.
Diversion Route
Eastbound
- Exit the A64 at the Old Malton Interchange with the A169
- Take the A169 northbound to Pickering
- Turn right on to the A170 eastbound towards Scarborough
- Remain on the A170 eastbound to the junction with the B1261 at East Ayrton
- Take the B1261 Seamer Road and continue through Seamer
- Re-join the A64 at the Musham Bank Roundabout
Westbound
- At the Musham Bank Roundabout join the B1261 towards Seamer
- Continue on the B1261 through Seamer to the junction with the A170 at East Ayrton
- Join the A170 westbound and continue to Pickering
- Turn left on to the A169 southbound
- Re-join the A64 at the Old Malton Interchange
