See the Stars in Scarborough This Weekend

A captivating journey through the cosmos is taking place in Scarborough this weekend as Astro Dog presents its latest photography exhibition.

"Celestial Adventures II - A Night Photography and Astrophotography Exhibition" is described as a "vibrant and colourful photography exhibition", and is taking place as part of the 2025 Scarborough Art festival at the Shakespeare Gallery, Scarborough.

The exhibition is scheduled runs until Monday July 28th, 2025.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the "cosmic beauty of the night sky", with the exhibition showcasing a diverse collection of images and time-lapse footage. Featured subjects include the majestic Northern Lights, also known as The Aurora Borealis, stunning Night Landscapes, the grandeur of The Milky Way, and intricate Deep Space Objects such as Star Clusters, Galaxies, and Nebulae.

The exhibition also highlights the beauty of individual Stars, including Earth's closest star, the Sun and invites attendees to "take a closer look at the jewels of the night sky from millions of lightyears away" and "marvel at nature’s own fireworks, from lightning strikes to meteors and stunning atmospheric phenomena".

Many of the photographic images and time-lapse sequences have been captured from locations including Scarborough itself and the North York Moors National Park. Astro Dog states that the exhibition will feature "brand-new, never seen before Astro Dog photographic images," alongside some "longstanding favourites".

Astro Dog, which has been capturing images of the night sky for over a decade, has gained national recognition for their work. Many of their Northern Lights and astrophotography images have been showcased on national news broadcasts, the BBC One Show, and in national media publications such as The Times, The Telegraph, and BBC Sky at Night.

"Celestial Adventures II" follows the success of Astro Dog's 2024 exhibition, "Celestial Adventures," which was honoured with the Scarborough Art award for best debut exhibition. A spokesperson for Astro Dog shared their enthusiasm, stating they were "thrilled to have been given the chance to take part" in last year's Scarborough ART festival, and were "blown away by all of the amazing support and positive feedback we received" for their first exhibition. Following this success, Astro Dog says they "were already thinking ahead about holding further exhibitions".

The exhibition will be housed in the "beautiful Victorian-style building of Scarborough's Shakespeare Gallery," which is located next to the historic old town area and market hall. Previously known as the Shakespeare Pub, the gallery is described as a "beautiful historical Tudor style building".

Doors will be open daily between 11:00 am and 5:30 pm, offering ample opportunity for visitors to explore the wonders of the night sky. Entry to the exhibition is completely free, and there is no need to purchase tickets; attendees can simply arrive during open hours.

Beyond viewing the stunning visuals, visitors will have the opportunity to purchase prints of all displayed photographic images and many more. Orders can be placed at the exhibition, with plans for prints to be available on Astro Dog's website soon. Additionally, a space-themed gift store will be on-site, offering a selection of "space related goodies," Astro Dog merchandise, soft toys, and even real meteorites.
