Upgrades to existing kit are also on the way.
Scarborough Hospital is to get a second CT scanner.
The new unit is expected to be in place in the next few months.
Chief Exec of the York and Scarborough Hospital trust - Simon Morritt - says the existing kit will also be upgraded.
A mobile PET-CT scanner has been in use one day a week at the hospital since March this year. that's been used to enable scanning for cancer patients to take place in Scarborough rather than the patients having to travel Hull, Leeds or Middlesbrough.
The new permanent scanner is not expected to add any new service to the site but will increase the scanning capacity at Scarborough Hospital.
Chief Exec of the York and Scarborough NHS Trust - Simon Morritt - says they are now looking to recruit more staff to work with the new kit.
