There is no one time fix to make the Yorkshire Coast buildings Seagull proof.
That's the message for Scarborough Borough Councillors who have been looking at the borough's seagull strategy.
Tim Burkinshaw is the councils Ecologist, he says any form of gull proofing on buildings requires ongoing maintenance that building owners need to be aware of.
Councillor Bill Chatt says that a balance needs to be struck between protecting buildings and protecting animal welfare.
Councillor Subash Sharma says he has also seen seagulls in distress after becoming caught in netting, he thinks there is a responsibility on building owners to deal with such incidents.
Councillor Sharma says building owners who install proofing, need to ensure they are also undertaking regular maintenance of the protection methods.
