Scarborough youngster Rueben Agar will continue to pursue his dream of playing football for Leeds United – with a helping hand from a local foundation.
Twelve-year-old Rueben, a pupil at St Augustine’s School, travels to Leeds three times a week for training sessions and then sometimes further afield on Sundays for matches, which proves incredibly costly for his family. A member of staff at his school successfully applied for £1,500 through the Woodsmith Foundation’s Young & Talented funding round to help ensure Rueben can continue to attend training and matches.
One of his teachers, Mr Farrell said:
“Rueben is a great kid with an infectious personality. He’s a very skilful and intelligent footballer who has a very good attitude and works incredibly hard,”
“It’s great that the Woodsmith Foundation is supporting Rueben to keep playing for Leeds United. I’m sure he’ll work incredibly hard to ensure this funding is put to good use.”
Rueben’s mum, Lisa Stubbings, added:
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Woodsmith Foundation for their fantastic support that will help allow Rueben to keep chasing his dream of playing for Leeds United. He loves attending training and matches and this will help him continue to do that.”
The Young & Talented funding round is still open for applications until October. Woodsmith Foundation Chief Executive, Leah Swain added:
“We’re delighted to be able to support young people in the area with a real talent that may be struggling with the costs of pursuing their ambitions. This could be in sport, or an academic subject, music or perhaps a talent such as chess. We are looking forward to seeing where Rueben’s talent takes him.”
