Scarborough Toy Appeal Is Back- Can You Help?

An appeal to give toys to underprivileged children in the Scarborough area will be boosted on Sunday.

There's a special carol service at Westborough Methodist Church on Sunday where people are encouraged to donate toys.

The Toy Appeal organiser is Nigel Wood:

"They get a huge supply of toys in the various agencies across the town, and the appeal now covers a 400 mile square radius. So it's a huge appeal, but it's something that, that we're really proud of and it's a passion of mine. It's, it drives me on each year to want to do more. I know last year we got about 34,000 toys last year, and that was, that had a street value of about £400-£450,000 pounds."

Nigel added:

"I'm fairly confident we might beat that this year, but yet we're probably into hundreds of thousands of toys and certainly into millions of pounds of monetary value. But you can't measure it just in monetary and toys. Some of these children see that people love and care for them, and that's the basic need we've all got for we all meet that.

"So this project just brings that really to life for me."

Toys can be left at a number of places in Scarborough, including: Westborough Church, Peace of Mind Financial Solutions on Falsgrave Road, Colin Ellis Property Services or Ellis Hay Estate Agents on Aberdeen Walk, St Cecilia's Nursing Home on Filey Road or Scarborough Rugby Club.

The concert is at 6pm, with a new carol written especially for Scarborough Community Choir by musical director, Bill Scott, set to be performed.
