Scarborough Sparkle Weekend Underway

The Festive season launches in Scarborough tonight as Scarborough Sparkle returns to the Open Air Theatre.

The weekend event is billed as a giant winter wonderland with a Christmas market, funfair and entertainment on the This is the Coast stage.

Borough Council Event Manager - Vicki Jones - says it all gets underway with a lantern parade this evening.

Lee Threadgold has been organising the lantern parade, he says everyone can join in.

Scarborough Sparkle will take place between Friday 25 November and Sunday 27 November.

The theatre will host around 35 themed stalls, including handmade gifts, Christmas cards, luxury chocolates, speciality liqueur, clothing and jewellery. There will even be special gifts to buy for four legged members of the family.

The Tipi Venue, decked out in magical Christmas lights and complete with log fires, will be the ultimate destination to warm up in with mulled wine, toasted marshmallows and Christmas music.

Foodies will be in for a treat or two from the gourmet food stalls, serving up a wide variety of cuisines from around the world as well sweet treats including donuts, crepes, brownies and waffles.

There will be plenty of entertainment for younger guests from a traditional Ferris wheel, teacups, hook a duck, MEGA fun house and illuminated land train.

Children will be able to meet favourite Frozen characters Olaf, Anna and Elsa, and see if they can catch the mischievous Grinch.

Scarborough Sparkle’s very own entertainment stage, hosted by This is the Coast, will host a packed Christmas programme featuring brass bands, school choirs and characters from local pantomime productions.

A free bus service to Scarborough Sparkle will operate on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 November from Eastfield via Crossgates, Seamer Road, Falsgrave and Scarborough town centre. The bus timetable can be seen at the bottom of this page.
