The charity is calling on the people of Scarborough to join the RNLI’s Mayday Mile to help raise vital funds to keep families safe this summer.
Usually, the lifesavers of the RNLI answer mayday calls – it’s the most serious call for help. But this May, they need YOUR help.
The charity is calling on the people of Scarborough to join the RNLI’s Mayday Mile. It’s easy to take part and support the RNLI’s lifesavers. Simply complete at least one mile this May, wherever and however you like – walk, jog, hop or skip!
Money raised through the Mayday Mile will make sure that RNLI lifesavers have everything they need to keep families safe this summer.
The fundraising is already off to a great start following a fantastic effort by two teams of supporters this weekend.
Super supporter Liz managed 1.5miles in 45 minutes in her self propelled wheelchair challenge raising an awesome £150!

Liz is recovering from a stroke and knee surgery which means she is having to learn to walk again.
Liz said:
"Thanks for the support and a big thank you to the crew who gave me such a great send off.
It was hard work but I enjoyed every minute of it"
Then to finish the weekend off a group of Morrisons staff and their children walked around Marine Drive collecting as they went. The collection boxes have been in the Morrisons store all week as well and the fantastic amount of £545 has been raised.

Roger Buxton, Scarborough RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat operations manager, says:
‘Summer is our busiest time of year, with thousands of people at risk of getting into danger by the water. Ordinary people just enjoying days out with family or friends.
“Mayday is our own call for help, as we rely on the generosity of the public to take part in events like the Mayday Mile and raise the funds that allow us to be there when we’re needed most. But we need to be ready. Training, kit, stations, fuel … these are just some of the things we need to save lives, and that your fundraising can help provide.’
The RNLI’s Mayday national fundraiser runs for the whole month across the UK and Ireland. You can sign up for the Mayday Mile now and find out more at rnli.org/SupportMayday.
