Alterations to the outside of the Cask and Keg pub in Scarborough have been approved by North Yorkshire Council.
Proposed alterations to the four-storey former Cask Inn in Cambridge Terrace have been given the green light, subject to conditions.
The applicant, Merrydith Property, said the works would upgrade the building to provide “better quality residential accommodation within a building that has stood empty for a while”.
The works will involve changes to the rooflights of the property.
The Highway Authority has raised no objections to the proposed development, and no objections have been made by the environmental health team.
A report by North Yorkshire Council states: “The proposed replacement is modest in scale and is confined to the existing roof slope, ensuring that the overall roof form of the building is preserved.
“The use of a heritage style conservation rooflight, which is flush within the roof plane, is appropriate within the context of a conservation area.”
At a meeting of Scarborough Town Council last month, members said they had no objections to the proposal.
Officers described the development as being of “an acceptable design and appearance in accordance with the principles of design”.
They added: “Given the limited scale of works, the sensitive choice of materials, and the use of a flush fitting rooflight, the development would preserve the character and appearance.”
The scheme was approved on Monday, January 12, subject to conditions.
