A man from Middlesbrough is in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle in Scarborough.
North Yorkshire Police reported that a black motorcycle was stolen from Foreshore Road at 11:09 pm on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. The force received several reports of a man riding the motorcycle without a helmet.
According to the police, the owner had fitted the motorcycle with a tracker, which allowed the Roads Policing Team to follow the vehicle as it headed towards Whitby. North Yorkshire Police stated that they covered all routes and alerted Cleveland Police.
Officers spotted the motorcycle after 3 am on the A171, heading north towards Guisborough. A pursuit was authorized, and the rider was arrested after he "slipped off the motorcycle at slow speed onto the grass verge" on the Guisborough bypass. Police said they had used a stinger device to deflate the tires.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the motorcycle sustained only minor damage and has been recovered for the owner.
The arrested man received treatment for minor injuries before being taken into custody. He was arrested on suspicion of several offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for the police, driving whilst disqualified, drug-driving, and possession of drugs and a knife.
Police also stated that the man was wanted on the Police National Computer for failing to appear at court and was subject to a recall to prison notification from a month ago.
