Fundraising for the new urgent care centre at Scarborough Hospital has hit a big milestone.
The York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity launched an appeal in May to raise £400,000 to add extra facilities to the new Emergency Care Centre - which is currently being built.
Maya Liversedge from the charity says the fundraising has now hit the £100k mark thanks to strong local support.
The £47m investment in the town’s emergency care facilities will see a new centre with an integrated critical care floor for intensive care and coronary care that almost doubles the current space. The centre promises a significant upgrade in the delivery of urgent and emergency services on the East Coast.
York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity has launched an appeal to raise £400,000 to support the new centre to enhance patient care and experience and support staff wellbeing in the new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre at Scarborough Hospital.
The appeal will help provide the extras over and above the funding allocated to the scheme. Plans include a specialist mental health crisis room, gardens, artwork and wayfinding as well as two ensuite relatives’ rooms within the new critical care department.
Maya Liversedge from the York and Scarborough Hospitals Charity says the money is going to help add extra resources to a number of areas of the revamped hospital.
Maya says the work at the Hospital site appears to be progressing well and says the planned upgrades will help solve some of the hospitals capacity issues.
Fundraising for the £400k appeal has seen local groups, firms and individuals taking part in a range of events and initiatives. Maya says the support has been particularly strong from local shoppers with collection tins at the area's Onestop shops performing well.
While the appeal may have hit the £100k mark, there is still a further £300k of fundraising to go. Maya says there are a number of initiatives ongoing at the moment including a special auction.
The auction includes a range of lots with some starting at under £50, the items include toys & gifts, experiences, holidays and family days out amongst other things. The auction closes at 8pm on Sunday 27 November.

Anyone holding their own fundraising event will be supported by York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity with advice, encouragement and practically with marketing and promotional materials.
