The Gallows Close Center has been awarded the contract to deliver help filling in the Census for people in Scarborough.
Census forms have started dropping through letter boxes on the Yorkshire Coast.
The census is a survey that happens every 10 years and gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.
The data is then used to help make decisions on planning and funding public services in the local area, including transport, education and healthcare.
In Scarborough the Gallows close centre are providing a support service to help people complete the survey.
the once a decade survey of households in England is taking place on March 21st with every household required to fill in census form. This year the survey can also be completed online and Kimmie says the team at Gallows Close can help with that as well.
Everyone in England and Wales must complete a census or be included on a census for the place where they’re living or staying.
Every householder at an address is responsible for completing a census questionnaire for their household. The householder should either answer the individual questions for all household members or make sure each member answers their own.
Kimmie says the information people provide on the census forms is confidential and does not affect people's benefits.
The Office for National Statistics undertake the survey, they say:
The information you give in the census helps provide the best picture of the needs of everyone in England and Wales.
Organisations such as local authorities and charities use this picture to plan and fund the services we all need, including transport, education and healthcare. Without the census, it’d be much more difficult to do this.
It is an offence to supply false information or to not complete the census, and you could be fined up to £1,000. Some questions are clearly labelled as voluntary. It is not an offence if you do not answer these.
Anyone needing help filling in the paper form, or who would like assistance filling it in onlline can arrange an appointmetn with the team at Gallows Close by calling 01723 378102
Callers are asked to leave a voice mail if the team can't answer the call in person.
