A North Yorkshire care group will find out this week whether it was won a prestigious award for the way it looked after more than 100 poorly Covid-19 patients during the pandemic.
Saint Cecilia’s Care Group agreed to take in discharged Covid-19 patients at its nursing home in Scarborough to free up much-needed hospital beds.
Now the company is in the running for a top award run by the Nursing Times to reward excellence in care.
Managing Director Mike Padgham said:
“We are greatly honoured to be shortlisted for an award and thank those who have nominated us.
“It is a huge testament to the hard work, commitment and compassion of our staff that we were able to set up a designated setting at the nursing home to take in people with Covid-19. It is nice for their efforts to be recognised by this shortlisting.
“We will be keeping our fingers crossed and wish everyone nominated for an award the very best of luck at the ceremony.”
Twice during the pandemic Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home became a designated setting to care for those with Covid-19 as part of a pioneering scheme with North Yorkshire County Council.
It dedicated a floor at the home to be isolated so that those with the virus could get the care they needed without impacting upon the rest of the home.
More than 100 people were cared for with the majority then returning home or to other care settings.
The home is shortlisted for the Nursing in Social Care Award at the Nursing Times Awards 2021. They will be presented at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London on Wednesday 27 October.
