A Scarborough care group is appealing for volunteers to help provide companionship and support to its residents.
Saint Cecilia’s Care Group says it had an excellent network of volunteers providing great support before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Now it is looking to rebuild that network again now that visiting restrictions are being relaxed.
The group owns Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home, Saint Cecilia’s Care Home, Normanby House care home and Saint Cecilia’s Day Care in Scarborough, and the Alba Rose care home in Pickering.
Director Aaron Padgham said:
“We have always treasured our links with the local community and very much value the support we get from local people.
“Before Covid-19 we had a very strong and thriving network of volunteers who helped in supporting our residents and day care visitors.
“However, Covid-19 interrupted that relationship and for many months we had to lock down our centres to keep people safe.
“Now that restrictions are being lifted and we can once again welcome more people, we are very keen to restart and boost our volunteer network.
“We want to welcome back those who have volunteered before and also add more to our rota.“Anyone who can spare a few hours would be welcome to come in and help provide companionship for our residents and day care visitors, maybe chatting with them, playing a board game, walking in the gardens and so on.
“Our volunteers also sometimes accompany our residents on outings, either pleasure trips or visits to hospital or doctors’ surgeries, for example.
“Our residents get a great deal from the volunteer visits and the feedback we get suggests the volunteers get a great deal from it too and find it a very rewarding experience.”
To work with Saint Cecilia’s, people will need to have the right DBS clearance, both Covid-19 vaccinations and follow all the safety procedures and protocols associated with the pandemic.
